Build process failure at zeppelin-web with bower with Windows

Jason Aizkalns

I am attempting to build zeppelin locally with windows and babun/cygwin. This site (http://madhukaudantha.blogspot.com/2015/04/building-zeppelin-in-windows-8.html) got me headed in the right direction, but I run into the following error when the build gets to Web Application:

[ERROR] Failed to execute goal com.github.eirslett:frontend-maven-plugin:0.0.23:bower (bower install) on project zeppelin-web: Failed to run task: 'bower --allow-root install' failed. (error code 8) -> [Help 1]

I can go into the zeppelin-web directory and run bower install successfully, but I'm not sure where to go from here? If I try to do mvn install -DskipTests, it tries to run the bowercommand again.

If I try to "move on" and attempt to build under ../zeppelin-server it will say that it can't find the zeppelin-web dependency.

I think I would like to run bower install manually, as suggested by the site above, but I'm not sure where to go from there? Is it possible to pick up mvn where it left off? Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated. In addition, I have opened a question on StackOverflow if anyone wishes to respond more publicly: http://stackoverflow.com/q/31084106/2572423

Hi Jason,

I was faced with the same problem when  I tried to build Zeppelin on ubuntu. I manually ran the bower install and then I re-ran the whole build process (You can also rerun from zeppelin-web). I believe, the next time, it will not execute the 'bower install' process as it will find it already installed. Manually installing bower and re-running the build process worked for me.

Thank you Ranjit. Do you remember the exact commands you ran? And from which folder you ran them from? I have tried running "mvn install -DskipTests” from within the zeppelin-web folder after the “bower install” command, but have not been successful. I have also tried the running “mvn install -DskipTests” from the zeppelin folder after the “bower install” command and have not been successful.

What type of build did you do to accomplish this? mvn install or mvn package?

Hi Jason,

After I manually ran the bower install, I ran 'mvn clean package -DskipTests' from inside 'incubator-zeppelin-master' (the main folder with the main pom.xml). I did not try resuming from zeppelin-web step.

Hope it helps.

RE: Build process failure at zeppelin-web with bower with Windows

Vadla, Karthik

Hi

Even I came across same issue when installing on my CentOS 6.6 vm on CDH cluster.

The problem for me was proxy issue. As I’m running zeppelin behind corporate environment I need to provide proxy details individually in .bowerrc like this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/21705091/bower-behind-a-proxy .

Just in addition make sure you have proxy details for npm, maven, git also if you are running zeppelin behind proxy.

Hope this helps.
